FAQ's
What are flower essences?
Flower essences are water-based solutions that hold the energetic imprint of a flower and its parent plant.
These liquid extracts are taken medicinally, most often as drops under the tongue. They support mental and emotional wellbeing while also fostering one’s soul-level growth. Known for their gentle yet deeply transformative effects, flower essences are part of the broader field of subtle energy medicine – similar to practices like acupuncture – that work on the body’s energetic system to restore more balance and harmony.
How do flower essences work?
Flower essences are based on energetics, primarily targeting the more subtle and less tangible aspects of a person – being the thoughts and emotions – rather than the dense, physical body. However, the physical body can be positively impacted when thoughts and emotions are more in balance.
Interaction between flower essences and the person taking them creates a kind of energetic recalibration of sorts – bringing one into greater alignment with their truer self – promoting greater wellbeing through improved mental and emotional balance.
What can flower essences help with?
They can support a wide range of psychological and emotional challenges such as stress, fear, sadness, grief, depression, feeling ‘stuck’, feeling isolated, loss of purpose, lack of focus, shock, panic – and the list goes on. They address the root cause of issues, promoting greater clarity, calm, and balance.
Are flower essences safe?
Yes. Flower essences are safe for frequent and long-term use. They do not contain traces of actual physical substance from the flower, so they do not influence the biochemistry of the body. They are energetic and vibrational by nature.
They are gentle and non-toxic, and safe for all ages, including pets, and even other plants.
Do they have any side effects?
Occasionally, when shifting old or stagnant emotions – as well as long-held mental or behavioural patterns – it’s possible to experience a short-term intensification of symptoms. This is often known as a healing crisis, and it indicates that healing is underway, as suppressed emotions rise to the surface to be processed and released. (the unblockening). This process is a sign the flower essence is working.
During this time of increased emotional awareness, it is encouraged to keep taking the flower essence to move through this phase of the healing process to reach desired outcomes.
Note: Flower essences are self-adjusting and work with the individual, never pushing a healing process beyond what a person can manage. However, if there are concerns – particularly for children or highly sensitive individuals – the frequency of use can be reduced to once a day until a greater sense of stability occurs.
Are flower essences the same as essential oils or herbal extracts?
No, flower essences are not the same as herbal extracts or essential oils.
They are water-based remedies that carry the energetic imprint of a flower and its parent plant. Unlike herbal or essential oil preparations, which contain biochemical compounds, flower essences contain no physical material from a plant.
They work on a vibrational level – much like homeopathic remedies – supporting emotional and energetic balance rather than affecting the body biochemically.
Do you use all natural ingredients?
Yes. CMW’s flower essences are all natural ingredients.
Each essence is prepared in natural spring water and preserved with certified organic, Australian made brandy that is free from sulphites, chemicals, and filtering agents.
The alcohol based preservative is necessary to increase the shelf-life of the product. The alcohol content in each flower essence dose is very minute.
How do I take flower essences?
Flower essences are most often taken orally – 7 drops under the tongue, 2x/day – first thing in the morning and last thing at night. They can also be added to water, applied topically, or used as sprays.
How long do I need to take them for?
Flower essences can work almost immediately, over a few days, or over weeks or months, depending on the individual and the issue/s being addressed.
A typical cycle is 2–4 weeks.
The effects of flower essences are cumulative which is why it’s important to be consistent with dosages.
Can I take more than one flower essence at a time?
Yes, but with care.
For example, in Chinese medicine, we do not use acupuncture to treat too many different issues at once. Acupuncture stimulates the body’s own healing mechanisms, and overloading the body with an excess of instructions can confuse the message we want to convey for healing. When too many signals are sent, the body becomes less certain of “which way to go”, resulting in a diluted message and, ultimately, a less effective treatment.
The same principle applies to flower essences. Combining too many flower essences to target a wide range of concerns can create an unfocused message, leading to scattered or unclear outcomes.
At CMW, your practitioner will carefully select either a single flower essence or a small custom blend tailored specifically to your needs – ensuring your body receives a clear and effective signal for healing.
Do they interfere with medications, therapies, or other natural remedies?
No. They are safe to use alongside pharmaceutical medications, herbs, supplements, and other natural therapies without conflict. Because flower essences contain no physical compounds from the plant – only its energetic imprint – they do affect the body’s biochemistry and therefore do not interact with other healthcare interventions.
Can they be used during pregnancy?
Flower essences are safe to use during pregnancy, as the amount of alcohol preservative in each dose is extremely minimal. If preferred, a glycerine-based preservative can be used on request, rather than the standard alcohol preparation.
As always, it’s best to consult with your healthcare provider for personalised advice during pregnancy.
Can I use flower essences with children?
Yes! Flower essences can be used for children of all ages, including newborn babies. They are a natural, and gentle support for a child’s emotional wellbeing.
In most cases, children respond very quickly to flower essences as their emotional and behavioural patterns are generally less fixed than those of adults – allowing for more rapid shifts.
Does my child take the same dose as an adult?
Yes. The recommended dosage for children is the same as adults at 7 drops, 2x/day – first thing in the morning, and last thing at night.
However, due to convenience and the presence of alcohol in the remedy, the method of administration may differ – especially for babies and younger children,.
For Babies:
Drops can be gently applied to areas of the baby’s body such as the crown of the head, side of the neck, pulse points, stomach, soles of the feet – or wherever one intuitively feels. They can also be added to baby’s bath.
For Young Children: Drops may be diluted in a glass of water or added to a cup of boiled water to allow the alcohol to evaporate, then cooled before drinking.
This simple approach makes it easy to incorporate the flower essences into daily routines, offering a gentle, and convenient way to support emotional balance for all ages.
How should flower essences be stored?
Flower essences should be kept in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight and strong heat sources.
Avoid storing them near strong electromagnetic fields – such as those emitted by smartphones, Wi-Fi routers, or other electronic devices – to maintain their energetic integrity.
It’s best to keep the bottles tightly closed when not in use to preserve their effectiveness.
Are CMW’s flower essences available for use by other practitioners?
Not yet – but stay tuned! CMW’s Flower Essences will be available for other practitioners to use with their clients in the future. For now, they can only be accessed through private consultations with Emma, practitioner of Chinese medicine and creator of the essences.
