I've always loved, and felt a close tie with nature.

Feeling a connection with nature since childhood, I was lucky enough to grow up in a beautiful place by the Australian ocean and live close to National Parks and areas of untouched land.

After leaving school, I spent some time working for the local environment council and then went on to study horticulture.

Having a keen interest in the more natural side of life and way of doing things – and having also grown up in a family where natural health was in focus – I decided to move to the city (which was a big adjustment) and started studying at the Australian College of Natural Medicine, Brisbane. Being interested in all aspects of the human being (physical, mental, emotional), I did a certificate in counselling which included a focus on nutrition.  After completing my counselling studies, I felt a very strong calling to study acupuncture and finally found my home in Chinese medicine.  I completed a Bachelor of Health Science (Acupuncture), that included some time doing an internship in China where I received further teachings and training at the Guangxi Traditional Chinese Medical University in Nanning, while also training in their affiliated hospitals with acupuncture. Although brief, this was an intensive six weeks that provided me with valuable training while being able to experience the Chinese culture – and do a little travel – where I witnessed some of China’s incredible natural beauty through some of China’s stunning landscapes.

It was during my time studying acupuncture and Chinese medicine, that my curiosity and interest in flower essences lead me to where I am today.

My first introduction to flower essences was at about the age of 12 when my mother became interested in flower essences and was using the Australian Bush Flower Essences by Ian White.  Being a natural form of medicine and working with the human mind and emotions, they peaked my interest, even at a young age.  Fast forward, while studying acupuncture and surrounded by various other courses and subjects at my college, I decided to do a term of study in flower essences out of personal interest.  I was blessed to study the subject with a very knowledgeable lecturer by the name of Annie Meredith (who went on to do work with Ian White) and I made my very first flower essence as an assignment.  When required to choose a completely original flower not previously made as a flower essence, I naturally couldn’t help but see the flower I chose through the eyes of Chinese medicine.  This was as clear as day to me. And this is the flower that started it all.

After moving back to my home town, I spent 11 years as a fully licensed acupuncturist in various multi disciplinary, natural health clinics, including two years of supporting cancer patients with acupuncture in an integrative medical environment. Along the way, I felt a strong calling to pick up where I had left off many years before, and create the line of flower essences I had always had in the back of my mind, using Chinese medicine. Looking into the behaviour and characteristics of hundreds of different plants and their flowers through the lens of Chinese medicine – on an adventure to discover just the right one’s to suit my purpose – became one of the most interesting, inspiring, and exciting times for me. I also chose to do further study in flower essences and related consulting through distance education with my previous college where I had gained my degree.

Today, you’ll often find me where I love to be… trailing through the bush with my beloved four legged companion, constantly learning from the plants and their flowers, seeing the wisdom of nature and Chinese medicine everywhere.  Without question, my favorite time of year is when the flowers are out and its that special time to witness and share nature’s profound messages through making flower essences.  We are extremely blessed as human beings, to have nature be so willing, ready and waiting to work with us.
